About the Cocoa Tree (Theobroma Cocao):
The cocoa tree, or Theobroma Cocao, is a small tree in the evergreen family. The tree produces pods which contain seed which are used to make things like chocolate and cocoa powder. The seeds are embedded in a white pulp inside the pod. A pod can hold anywhere from twenty to sixty seeds. Flowers also grow on the cocoa tree. They are very small. Unlike most flower which are pollinated by butterflies and bees, the flowers that grow on the cocoa tree are pollinated by little flies Forcipomyia midges which are part of the biting midge family.
